Thanks for writing this! Leaning into freelance life now and finding it more stressful than freedom/flexibility.

I went freelance half a year ago and now I get to enjoy my coffee “to stay” (while people watching and listening to the birds)!

I definitely don’t miss those 9am meetings in the office (which I think should be illegal, especially in startups)

Gorgeous. I haven’t done much coffee shop work yet but want to!

100% to all of this. I’ve also been freelancing on the side for about 5 years and I’m finally going out on my own in September! Since I juggle a few side hustles in addition to full time work I’ve had to set many boundaries around my work hours and scope.

Ahhh congratulations! I feel you on boundaries — such a good practice.

I went out on my own at the beginning of 2025 and this post HITS!!!! Still dealing with the tax stuff and starting to find my sea legs enough to say no. Appreciate this post, I feel less alone. 🫶

Liz!!! I’m so happy this resonated. I found the tax stuff exhausting, even with an accountant doing most of the work

I love this Kate!! Your journey mirrors so much of my own after making the jump in 2023. Going solo is a journey, it’s going to be different for everyone but love you sharing a look at what a fairly smooth journey can look like (obvious credit to you for planning and the thought you put into it!).

Thank you, Ashley! My transition certainly wasn't seamless, but overall, it was much easier than I expected, which I'm so grateful for. I love that you had a similar experience.

I just made this transition, too, and totally agree on the Admin stuff. I wish I had gotten that taken care of before last week lol. Feel like I haven't learned the "saying no" part yet, and still trying to figure out my daily structure!

To be fair, I haven't learned the "saying no" part yet either. But I am AWARE and WORKING ON IT!

I went solo in May, and I literally could have written this exact post. 100% same experience so far! The weird calm through it all is my best tell that it’s the right choice for me.

It's such a relief to hear I'm not alone. And I totally relate to the weird calm feeling — it's the best.
